‘The 11 paintings in Bridegroom focus on the figure of Christ in the Gospels, and particularly on God as love. They are in a range of materials and techniques from classical iconography to a figurative expressionism.’
1. Supper at Emmaus. The grace of Christian marriage is a fruit of Christ’s cross, the source of all life. This is what the Apostle makes clear when he says, “Husbands love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. CCC 1615-162. Baptism of Christ. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. Jn 3:293. Crucufixion. I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, My soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, And as a bride adorns herself with jewels. Is 61.104. Pantocrator Series. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Cor 4:65. Virgin of Tenderness. When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” Jn 2:36. Lamp (Holy Spirit in Flames). In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth Ps 19: 4-67. Image of Pity. Can the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. The days will come, when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day. Mk 2:19-20
